International Mobility
Stays abroad in connection with thesis work
INED supports international mobility for PhD students through a programme funded by the iPOPs Laboratory of Excellence that provides young researchers the opportunity to live abroad in connection with their thesis work.
The mobility programme funds research stays of 15 days to 3 months in a host research institution abroad, either within or outside Europe. Research stays may be used to set up and conduct surveys, to do archive research, or thesis-related work in a foreign research team. They may also be used in the framework of a comparative thesis project or a project focused on the host country, while young researchers may use them to prepare post-doc projects.
Training abroad at the beginning of the thesis process
INED has a partnership with the European Doctoral School of Demography (EDSD) whereby students with a master’s degree can take a year of training in population science in a school belonging to the EDSD network.
The EDSD was founded in 2005 by a consortium encompassing the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS), INED, the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Germany, the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI), the universities of Groningen, Helsinki, Lund, Rome and Rostock, and the Vienna Institute of Demography (VID). The school recruits students of all nationalities with a master’s degree, preferably enrolled in first-year doctoral studies. The researchers who train PhD students at EDSD are among the finest international specialists in their fields.
