New reproductive technologies and social imaginaries

the Thursday 29 November 2018 at l'Ined, salle Sauvy, de 9h à 18h

Study day of the International Perspectives research group

Organized by Doris Bonnet (IRD), Fabrice Cahen (Ined, UR11, UR4), Virginie Rozée (Ined, UR3, UR14)

This international seminar aims to explore social representations of new reproductive technologies since early 20th. The papers presented will analyse the link between technical, ethical, legal and anthropological controversies on the one hand, and social representations, cultural constructions, and beliefs on the other. While the bioethical debate is once again a current and sensitive issue, it may be useful to identify and question the standard discourses, mental images and commonplaces with which more rational arguments may, sometimes inextricably, mingle.
