The project focuses on identifying factors that contribute to providing quality education for all, particularly through analyzing existing data on student outcomes from primary and secondary education. It emphasizes fundamental skills like reading, mathematics, science, and foreign languages, with a special focus on understanding how educational inequalities develop over time, particularly in Southern and Western Europe. A key part of the research will be to assess whether various datasets can be standardized for comparison across countries, enabling innovative insights into how longitudinal studies can be used for cross-country analysis.
In addition to this desk research, the project will gather primary data from schools in the participating countries (France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain) to explore the impact of policies aimed at reducing inequalities, particularly through compensatory interventions. This will help identify strategies schools can adopt to engage students effectively, meet their needs, and address inequality in education both in the short and long term.
The project will collaborate closely with national authorities to access longitudinal data and other relevant information, ensuring the research findings are contextually relevant. By validating and communicating the results at national and European levels, the project aims to inform policymakers, educators, and researchers about strategies for reducing educational inequalities. Ultimately, the goal is to develop recommendations that will contribute to a more inclusive, supportive, and equitable educational environment.
