(Interview conducted in September 2019)

What is the subject of your Prize-winning article?

My article, "Changing patterns and determinants of first marriage over the history of the People’s Republic of China", uses parametric cure models to distinguish the effects associated with the timing of first marriage and the likelihood of ever marrying.

What projects will you be working on next?

I’m currently working on the interrelationship between cohabitation, non-marital pregnancy and marriage in China using a multi-process modelling strategy. My other project focuses on the effects of children on divorce in China.

What does it mean to you to receive Population’s Young Author Prize?

I’m immensely grateful for the help and feedback received from both external reviewers and the editors of Population. As a PhD candidate, receiving Population’s Young Author Prize is a validation of my work. It gives me added confidence in my future studies and research.
