The legacy of Nelson Mandela in South Africa

The emblematic South African figure Nelson Mandela was elected president on May 10, 1994, in the country’s first multiracial election. In addition to instating equal rights, the abolition of the apartheid regime in the 1990s impacted the country’s demographic situation and the ethnic distribution of the population within the country.
